We’re Throwing a Party and You’re Invited
March 20, Hearing Things takes over Trans-Pecos with a live performance from Lollise and vinyl DJ sets from Edan and our own Andy Cush.

Mark your calendars: On March 20—the first day of spring!—we’ll be hosting our first live event: an evening at the Ridgewood, Queens, DIY hub Trans-Pecos, featuring a special performance from Afro-pop auteur Lollise and DJs spinning records all night long. We can’t wait to mix it up with our readers, fellow writers, musicians we love, people who’ve never heard of Hearing Things and tagged along with their coolest and most clued-in friend—whoever ends up stopping by.
If you’d like to hang out with us, you can get your tickets here. And if you’re a paying subscriber, scroll to the bottom of the page (or check your inbox) for an exclusive discount code on the presale.
Lollise is one of the very first musicians we covered at Hearing Things, with a Going Up profile back in October. Here’s how Julianne described her debut album I Hit the Water at the time: “a profound pop album that experiments with the genres she grew up hearing—kwaito, Xitsonga, Zimbabwean sungura, South African bubblegum—atop a foundation of forward-thinking synth melodies. Her throaty alto is warm and striking, with a range that vibrates in the low notes, and she layers herself into pyramidal harmonies as she explores topics of family, freedom and, occasionally, stunting.” She’s also an incredible live performer, and is sure to bring party-starting energy to the Trans-Pecos stage.
After Lollise plays, we’ll have a couple hours of chilling, chatting, mingling, maybe even dancing, soundtracked by Edan, one of the best vinyl DJs in New York, which is to say in the world. You may know him for his collaborations with underground rap phenoms like Your Old Droog and Homeboy Sandman, his cult-classic solo work, or from the boundless energy and invention he brings to playing records around town. Andy will be warming up the decks to open the night, then joining in the party the minute Lollise starts playing.
We’ll have more to say as the date gets closer, but for now: Buy a ticket! You don’t want to miss it if it sells out. We’ll see you at Trans-Pecos soon. Paying subscribers, your discount code is below.
